Our client is a leading supplier of safety and control systems for commercial vehicles. With 8,100 employees in 31 countries and sales of $2.5 billion in 2011, the company supplies especially electronic, mechanical and mechatronic technologies for braking, stability and transmission automation systems to the world’s leading commercial truck, trailer and bus manufacturers.
The Strategic Purchasing Department is divided into 8 commodities, all lead by a Global Commodity Leader. For the commodity electronic assembly and components a new Leader is to be searched because the predecessor will go to retirement in Oc-tober 2012.
Scope
The new position holder will have to define and implement strategies which will en-sure that the monopoly positions of certain suppliers are eliminated and the commodity’s performance is improved by developing strong team leaders in the second row. In general the new position holder will have to provide a good knowledge of the global market for relevant products.
The incumbent will have to drive all necessary actions to achieve the best supplier quality, cost & delivery (QCD) by defining and implementing the right commodity strategy according to company’s business needs.
Main responsibilities
• Quality, Cost and Delivery performance of Commodity
• Create Commodity strategy in line with Business Unit’s needs
• Ensure global implementation of commodity strategy
• Validate strategy and Quality, Cost and Delivery targets per supplier
• Prepare and implement Commodity Annual Operating Plan
• Execute Component Quality Planning for Common Development Process and Cost Reduction Project’s on time
• Ensure TCO visibility for sourcing decisions
• Drive Continuous Improvement process from/at supplier (supplier suggestion, VA/VE workshop, lean)
• Set up problem solving strategy for supplier warranty claims
• Manage supplier relationship
• Manage supplier contracts
• Risk assessment of Commodity supply base
• Comply with Sourcing & Purchasing rules and policies
• Improve processes in collaboration with Sourcing & Purchasing Business Improvement Team
Requirements
• Technical or commercial degree (even practitioner [with proven track record] will be considered)
• The ideal candidate can either have a background in purchasing with strong technical expertise and market knowledge of commodity products, or he/she might be a strong technical expert with market knowledge, who is willing and motivated to become a strategic purchaser.
• English language skills on a business conversation level (any other additional language would be an asset)
• Any way he/she will have to have strategic abilities and an open mind for global activities.
• He/she should be a strong developer of his team.
